Yellow...

Last A/W 11 collection and this S/S 11 collection by Victoria Beckham has seen a plethora of yellow...from mustard tones to more orange based yellow.

In both seasons Victoria has managed to create a look based on the basic shift shape, she has used different blends of colour and design shapes to keep it fresh, new and exciting.

So I have managed to find my very own high street copy...

George at Asda £16

Perfect to brush away those winter blues with...!

High Street...

So there is plenty of new 'stuff' on the high street at the moment...but here are my top buys or more likely essential/key capsule items that will take you into spring and perfect for most of those in between occasions...

This stunning 70s inspired sheer shirt will look great with jeans but I have also picked out some fab pants that they can team with...both from River Island the shirt at £24 and the trousers £34.99, both very interchangeable items that are this season with little effort.

This dark orange plazzo playsuit again from River Island is perfect for those warmer evenings and at £24.99, great with platform wedges but also for a more relaxed look a grecian sandal and big hoops.

The navy jewel detail dress is from Dorothy Perkins, we saw these around at the end of last season and they are here to stay, what I like about this one is that it is simple and navy is a perfect colour for evening wear through all seasons, its not as harsh as black and not as summery and some of the brights we are seeing around at the moment. Perfect as a winter dress with tights and boots and perfect summer evening with platform wedges, long dangle earings and a massive over sized clutch.
Now normally not so interested in Phase 8 although I have to say this dress would fit into many of my clients needs...Christenings...Lunch invites etc etc it looks really nice with some pumps, also not fitted so perfect to hide some of those conscious areas!
Oh and the price tag is only £79, even better!
Till next time XoXo

What do the 70s mean for us...

Well this season everyone is talking about the 70s and how fashionable they are...so what do they actually transpire into on the high street.

Firstly lets have a brief look at what happened during these fashion years...

- Paul Smith Opening his first store in Nottingham in 1970
- Coco Channel dies in 1971
- Let it rock boutique opened by Vivienne Westwood 1971 (Renamed Sex in 1974)
- Gordon Parks, Shaft film released 1971
- YSL Peasant look 1973
- Jane Fonda hit our screens 1973
- Calvin Klein launches jeans 1976
- John Travolta stars in Saturday Night Fever in 1977, then in Greece in 1978
- Karl Lagerfeld first collection for Fendi 1978
- Village people release YMCA

One major trend that has come out of this time if flares, we have the day flare...fashion and extreme available. Gap have some really great white day flares, perfect with some large platform wedges!

Colour blocking is also a big deal right now, wearing white with black and orange with red, think opposites and you will be on your way.

Hats, head gear or corsages all great, bright gold accessories a must, and platforms a cannot live without item!

Were to search for these items on the high street...

- Zara - for flares, dresses, accessories
- Gap - Great day flares
- River Island - head gear and platforms
- Hobbs N.W.3 range - smart / work suits and knitwear
- Marks & Spencer's - shirts, dresses, over sized hand luggage

Hopefully this will help inspire some fabulous 70s fashion looks...

Me...a style icon...?!

OK Ladies...

Style icons keep a few simple rules that can help them look amazing and feel great...this is how we do style..

  • - We must all learn how to start buying only the things that look good and what you actually like!

  • - Invest in some classic basic`s start with a trench coat, white shirt, and a little black dress and go from there.

  • - Buy with passion, if you do not fall in love there and then...leave it on the hanger!

  • - Shoes...enough said...important to have lots!!

  • - Impact of accessories, they can bring the dullest outfit together and into the new season...never underestimate the power.

  • - Don't believe in trendy wear, just because it looks great on Kate Moss DOES NOT mean it will necessary look good on you!

  • - Believe it or not its really not about the money...wear your bargain earings the way you would wear diamonds!

  • - Everyday is not a photoshoot...give yourself a break!!

Think about it, they all hopefully make sense and next time you are shopping these few basic rules should help you on your road to style!!

Pregnant...where to start...

After just enjoying a very delicious lunch with the girls it occurred to me that being pregnant can pose a very difficult time for the wardrobe, especially for that in between time before your bump really shows itself.

So here are my tips on remaining fabulous and stylish...with your ever increasing waist line...

  • Shop wise...invest in some basics that you can mix and match and also dress up. Isabella Oliver have some great basic jersey tops (nice and long) and for jeans I would recommend Topshop, H&M also have a good selection of maternity wear. For a more formal situation try both wrap dresses and jersey dresses, and go for bold block colours!
  • Use costume jewellery to dress up an outfit, it can glam up most items of clothing.
  • Don't squeeze yourself into your current clothes, get rid of them the day your jeans start to push on your stomach, its not worth it!
  • Avoid patterns, especially across the bump, not such a good look!
  • Dark skinny jeans work well with long jersey tops, this can give the illusion of being very long and lean, then try teeming this with a long chunky beaded necklace...delicious!

Hopefully ladies this will help start you off on your next big adventure...

New Year Dialemas...How to look/dress thin...

Its that time of year again when we start a gym membership and fully intend to use the service at least three times a week. We all know that this is mearly an ideal situation and real life and that glass of wine or two steps in to take hold!

So how can we dress thin...

1. Sleeve length is important, if you roll your sleeves up it gives the appearance that your arms are longer and therefore appear leaner and thinner

2. Try to wear either the same colour top and your bottom half or at least a t-shirt under a shirt, or a matching pashmina/scarf the same colour. This will give the impression on face value that you have a longer silhouette and again appear longer and leaner

3. This doesn't always have to mean you wear black, yes sometimes a tailored black pant can help..but really its no ones funeral!!

4. Sizes can vary from brand to brand...ITS ALL ABOUT THE FIT ladies! Go up a size if necessary if you need to prevent button gaping.

5. Try not to wear just big cover ups, this will only emphasise you. This doesn't do anyone any favours, try a good wrap dress instead of a jumper dress. If you do insist on wearing a jumper dress then at least wear a belt, this will help rediscover/redefine your shape!

6. Heels can lift anyone, no flat chunky boots here! A good heel can really take you places and give you the lift (and hopefully confidence) you need to pull you through anything!

7. A V-neck shape opening/top can create a diagonal line that [in contrast to the body] can appear very flattering in contrast to the curve of your body.

I hope that my 7 ways to appear thin has helped someone who has over-indulged this Christmas, you can hide a multitude of sins with well positioned, styled, designed clothes!!

Live the shoe dream...

Just a few Ive picked out...

Rupert Sanderson£365, Stella McCartney £365, Ted Baker £70, KG £120

With all this shoe talk (Que Selfridges shoe galleries) I want and need to know which shoes to invest in this season!

I think this may even have to include a word which doesn't come out of my mouth all too often 'PRACTICAL', yes I think it is necessary that in the next cold dark 6 months I may have to pace the streets i.e. crazy Christmas shoppers at the Marks and Spencer food hall!. No I'm not talking or using the word 'pump' in this situation you will see as quite frankly that word is really only synonymous with Amy Winehouse and those awful skin colour fabric shoes, I'm talking something a little more styled. This may even include a little kitten heel...good news girls this is big news this season, hurrah for happy feet!!

Christmas....Is Looming

I know its early but we all need to start considering the ever looming party season, we are looking at the next three months as a never ending entertaining season!

If your like me you would of already had to comit yourself to Christmas day already and have started looking at new years (the earlier I get this sorted the calmer I feel!)

My suggestion is that we start [the never ending search for that ultimate part dress that never seams to exist] with keeping your eyes peeled for a classic cut LBD. Then we can style it up with accessories for all different types of occasions...so lets start with the black dress.
This one is from Browns £355 and I thought it could be worn in many ways with tights and boots for a more informal look or with some killer brightly coloured platform heels...va va voom!

This dress is from All Saints £60 and is a classic shift with some more style, perfect for all those drinks parties!!
Next week I'm going to start looking at accessories and how they can really make an outfit...

This Barbour International jacket is the height of country cool!

Leopard print Hunters!! and even a purse you can attach to your hunters...to keep any loose change you may have for that vino on your way home!

White, cream and cammel...

This season is rife with white cream and cammel tones, put together with a gold belt and you have a very seasonal piece.

In particuar there are white dresses which take the look forwards, team this up with tan boots or nude platform shoes and a gold belt and you have a forward look, some of the best on the high street are...

This first dress would look cool with tan boots, oversized bag and a cropped denim jacket, for only £45 from Phase Eight

This is a buy from asos for £100 this is an investment that would yake you right up till Christmas, think gold accessories or maybe next seasons purple.
Buying this item will take you into the next year with thier ability to be dressed up or down for most occasions, it can only be an investment!
